DC Creatives! For 6 months, we have all experienced a new normal. As we all continue to adjust to the tremendous changes to our way of life, we now have a unique opportunity to create an even more vibrant city in a way that is a safe and sustainable for residents in all 8 Wards.
DC is, and has always been, a national leader in culture, arts and justice. Mayor Muriel Bowser led the country by having "Black Lives Matter" painted on the street that leads to the White House where protesters have been demonstrating against police brutality and systemic racism. After local artists and volunteers painted the bold mural in large yellow letters on Black Lives Matter Plaza, cities across the country followed suit, artistically expressing their own support anti-racism protests.
With the District's creative community front and center in the fight against injustice across our nation, this year’s Mayor Muriel Bowser Presents 202Creates Month celebration will be a special virtual experience for everyone, in the District and around the nation. We want the nation to be a part of this epic celebration of our diverse and creative community from all 8 Wards.
The 35th Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards will celebrate, showcase, and amplify the power of community, connection, and resilience in the District. The 2020 celebration will make history as the first ever virtual and televised Mayor's Arts Awards ceremony, sharing the humanity and creativity of the District of Columbia with a national and global audience.
You can learn more about The Mayor's Arts Awards and 202Creates by tuning into the District’s Economic Recovery Team (DERT) Weekly Check-In on Tuesday, August 11 at 4 p.m. at mayor.dc.gov/live or by calling 844-881-1314.
We continue to support our creative community that shows up and shows out for the District and our nation every day. We invite you to join us to amplify creatives from all 8 Wards.
